Project brief
A hiking app geared toward approachability and supporting hikers. I wanted to create a safe space for someone possibly intimidated by the idea of hiking whether that be because you don’t have experience or because you don’t want to go alone.
Trail Start is the perfect app to encourage people to get out there and meet people in their area and get to know the trails they live by.
Overview
The app supports functions surrounding social connection and catering to your individual experience. When designing, I emphasized creating a platform that supports the needs, wants, and demographic of each person. Trail Start is responsive to each person using it to ensure they get the most out of their hiking journey.
process
Working on this app made me put myself in the head space of users, I had to creatively put myself in their shoes to imagine what features would be necessary for an app they could use. My goals of accessibility helped motivate me to create the feeling and intention behind Trail Start.
Along the way, I became more familiar with app design and creating responsive layouts.
takeaways
I walked away from Trail Start with a better understanding of what it means to design with accommodation in mind. I also enjoyed getting to create something related to what I love, hiking! Exploring all the functions and user experience was exciting and made me see apps I use in my daily life with a different perspective.
